What is WiMAX?
WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) is a technology that focuses on providing data over long distances in a wireless mode, very similar to the cellular mobile concept. WiMAX is capable of offering speeds up to 2 Mbps, which is approximately 25 times faster than the regular dial-up connection and unlike a dial-up, a WiMAX connection is switched on from the moment you start your PC.
 
What is the difference between WiMAX and WiFi?
The frequencies that WiFi uses are unlicensed and therefore open for all to share. WiMAX, on the other hand, operates on licensed frequencies, ensuring a regulated and secure environment where the data is not vulnerable to scanning and packet interception. Also, WiMAX offers more efficient bandwidth use and can provide broadband access in a radius of up to 50 kms, while the WiFi range is limited to a maximum of 100 meters.

How do I start using Mobilink’s Infinity?
To register for our service, please visit any Mobilink Sales & Service Centre and choose the package you would like to sign-up for. The customer services representative will inform you of a date when our engineer will come over to your house/facility to setup the service.
 
What type of documentation do I require for register for a Mobilink Infinity connection?
You will need to bring the following:
Original national ID card
A copy of your national ID card
 
From the time of registration, how many days will it take the engineer to install and activate the service at my place?
It will take up to a maximum of 3 working days between the time you register and the time our engineer is at your doorstep to install the CPE (Customer Premises Equipment) and activate the service.
 
How long will it take the engineer to setup my connection?
An engineer will normally take up to 1 hour to install and activate an indoor CPE (Customer Premises Equipment) and up to 3 hours to install and activate an outdoor CPE.
 
When the engineer comes to my house for installation, what is required from my end?
Kindly guide the deployment engineer at your premises about the location where you want to use your Infinity connection. The engineer will accordingly perform the installation.
 
Can I install the service myself?
To be able to use our services for the first time, we will send over our engineer to install the new CPE so that you are assured a trouble-free experience.
 
Can I upgrade my package easily if I want more bandwidth?
If you feel you want better download speed and/or capacity, please call 111-300-369 or 369 (from your Mobilink number) to have your package upgraded.
 
Is there a minimum software or hardware requirement for using Mobilink Infinity service?
To be able to use our WiMAX service you need at least the following- Operating System: Windows 98 Second Edition or Higher/ Mac (Macintosh) OS 7.5 or higher- Hardware: Ethernet Card or USB port
 
Can I use my existing modem for this connection?
Mobilink Infinity requires a special Customer Premises Equipment. When you opt for a service package, we will provide you with a CPE.
 
What is Customer Premises Equipment (CPE)?
CPE is the device that we will install at your premises. This device is responsible for providing data and voice connectivity to your PC and telephone. There are two types of CPEs:
Outdoor CPE
Indoor CPE
 
Is the outdoor CPE weather protected?
Yes, the outdoor CPE is weather proof.
 
Does Mobilink provide a warranty for the CPE?
Yes, the CPE comes with a 12-month limited warranty which will cover manufacturing defects in the equipment.
 
Can I connect more than one computer with one CPE connection?
If you are using the ZyXel CPE provided by Mobilink Infinity, you can simultaneously connect 4 PCs using network cables and multiple PCs over your local wireless network (WiFi).
 
What is the highest speed that I can achieve using a Mobilink Infinity connection?
The maximum speed depends on the connection profile that you have chosen while buying your connection. Based on your package, you can get speed of up to 1Mbps.
 
I am moving to a new house; how do I take my Mobilink Infinity connection with me?
Call our helpline at111-300-369 or 369 (from your Mobilink number). Provide them with your Mobilink Infinity user name and inform them of your new address. Our agent will let you know if the same service is available in that area.
In case of an indoor CPE:  You can simply take your CPE to your new house, plug it in and start using it.
In case of an outdoor CPE: Our agent will inform you of a date when our engineer will come to uninstall your CPE from the old residence and install it at the new residence.
 
I am moving to a different city, what will happen to my connection?
Currently we are only offering our services in Karachi. If you move out of Karachi, your connection will not work anymore. However, we will be introducing our services in more cities very soon.
 
I want more bandwidth/speed. What should I do?

How does the Mobilink Infinity voice service work?
Our voice service allows you to make phone calls without using the regular phone lines laid out by PTCL. We convert the voice signal to a digital signal and allow it to travel over the Internet, giving you better voice quality. You can make calls using a regular phone set, as well as your PC/Laptop.
 
I already have a PTCL phone line, why do I want another phone connection?
Our voice service offers many advantages that will make you want to register with us, such as:

How do I avail Mobilink Infinity’s voice services?

Can I use my PTCL phone number?
No, we will provide you with a new telephone number.
 
Can I use my existing telephone set?
Yes, you can use your own telephone set.
 
Can I make calls from my computer?
Yes, you can install a software on your computer and use that to make your phone calls. You will need a pair of headphones, a mic and a soundcard installed in your PC.
 
Does my computer have to be switched on when I am making calls from the phone set?
No, your computer need not be switched on if you are using a regular phone set.
 
Who can I call using my new number?
You can call all your family and friends who are using our voice service, as well as those who use the Mobilink mobile network.
 
Who can call me on my new number?
All your family and friends who are using our voice service as well as those who use the Mobilink mobile network can call you on your new number.
 
How do I dial a number from my voice service enabled phone?
When calling another Mobilink Voice number: City code followed by VOIP number. When calling another Mobilink Mobile number: No city code required. Just dial the number directly.
 
Troubleshooting
 
My CPE (Customer Premises Equipment) is not switching on. What should I do?
Try the following:
Ensure that the power light on the power adapter is on
Try plugging the adapter in a different power socket
In case you have an outdoor CPE, ensure that the Ethernet cable is plugged properly into the POE (Power Over Ethernet)
 
My Mobilink Infinity connection is not working. I can't browse or download. What should I do?
Check the following:
The CPE is powered on
Computer is powered on
The cable between your computer and CPE is connected
Your computer is not infected with any virus or Trojan program
If your Mobilink Infinity connection is still not working, call our helpline at 111-300-369 or 369 (from your Mobilink number)
 
My connection is unusually slow, what should I do?
Check your CPU usage. If your hard drive or your RAM is nearing capacity, that might be slowing down your system as well as your browsing and download speed . If your CPU usage is not high, ping www.mobilinkinfinity.com and contact our agent on 111-300-369 or 369 (from your Mobilink number) with the results.
 
My connection is working fine, but some websites are not opening up. Why is that?
Please check the following:
The website address is correct
The website is not blocked by your anti-virus program
If that does not help, contact our helpline agent on 111-300-369 or 369 (from your Mobilink number)
 
The voice quality has suddenly declined, what could be the reason?
If you are running file/music sharing programs, they could be using up a lot of bandwidth and creating quality issues. Shutdown such programs and then check the voice quality. If the problem still persists, call our helpdesk at 111-300-369 or 369 (from your Mobilink number).
 
When I pick up the phone, there is no dial tone. What should I do?
Please check the following:
Telephone set is properly plugged into the IAD (Integrated Access Device)/CPE
The telephone cable connector (RJ11) is not damaged
Telephone set is working on the PTCL line (to ensure that the telephone set is not faulty) In case all the above is working, try restarting your CPE. If there is still no dial tone, call our helpline at 111-300-369 or 369 (from your Mobilink number).
 
How do I login to my account?
Once you are connected through the CPE device, the browser will direct to a login page which will ask for the credentials for user name and password
 
I can only browse to the Mobilink page?
You are required to login with the id/password provided by Mobilink upon signup to use the internet services.
 
Nothing is coming on the browser when I connect my CPE?
Please make sure you are using Internet explorer version 5 or later compatible browser
 
Do I have to login every time I open my PC?
No, you are only required to provide login/password in case your CPE gets restarted due to power recycle or other issues.
 
Code of Conduct
 
While using Mobilink Infinity Services, the prohibited activities include but not limited to, the use of Data & Voice Services and Customer Premises Equipment to:
 
Carry out any unlawful purpose which is prohibited by Mobilink, Pakistan Authority law, PTA or any Regulator/Institute and usual compulsions on Internet and Voice Service Usage. This includes, but is not limited to, posting, storing, transmitting or disseminating information, data or material which is defamatory, obscene, unlawful, threatening, or which violates the intellectual property rights of any person or entity, or which in any way constitutes or encourages conduct that would constitute a criminal offense, terrorist activity or otherwise violate any Local, Provincial, Pakistani law or International law, order, or regulation.
Posting, storing, sending, transmit, or disseminating any information or material which is resulting into a religious conflict.
Uploading or downloading, transmitting, posting, publishing, disseminating, receiving, retrieving, storing or otherwise reproducing, distributing or providing access to information, software, files or other material which (i) are confidential or protected by copyright or other intellectual property rights, without prior authorization from the rights holder(s); (ii) are defamatory or (iii) constitute invasion of privacy, appropriation of personality, or unauthorized linking or framing.
Falsifying or deleting any author attributions, legal or other proper notices or proprietary designations or labels of the origin or source of software or other material contained in a file or other data.
Transmitting, posting, receiving, retrieving, storing or otherwise reproducing, distributing or providing access to any program or information designed to assist in the fraudulent use of telecommunications services.
Transmit unsolicited bulk or commercial messages commonly known as “spam;”
Send very large numbers of copies of the same or substantially similar messages, empty messages, or messages which contain no substantive content, or send very large messages or files that disrupts a server, account, blog, newsgroup, chat, or similar service.
Initiate, perpetuate, or in any way participate in any pyramid or other illegal scheme.
Participate in the collection of very large numbers of e-mail addresses, screen names, or any identifiers of others (without their prior consent), a practice sometimes known as spidering or harvesting, or participate in the use of software (including “spyware”) designed to facilitate this activity.
Impersonate any person or entity, engage in sender address falsification, forge anyone else's digital or manual signature, or perform any other similar fraudulent activity (for example, “phishing”).
Violate the rules, regulations, terms of service, or policies applicable to any network, server, computer database, service, application, system, or Web site that you access or use.
Initiating and/or terminating any Voice service which falls under IP Telephony or Voice IP from within or outside the geographical Vicinity of Pakistan.
 
Network Security
Sharing of your Account UserID and password for any purpose.
Access any other person's computer or computer system, network, software, or data without his or her knowledge and consent; breach the security of another user or system; or attempt to avoid the user authentication or security of any host, network, or account. This includes, but is not limited to, accessing data not intended for you, logging into or making use of a server or account you are not expressly authorized to access, or probing the security of other hosts, networks, or accounts without express permission to do so.
Use or distribute tools or devices designed or used for compromising security, such as password guessing programs, decoders, password gatherers, keystroke loggers, analyzers, cracking tools, packet sniffers, encryption circumvention devices, or Trojan Horse programs. Unauthorized port scanning is strictly prohibited.
Service, alter, modify, or tamper with the Customer Premises Equipment Provided by Mobilink.
Restrict, inhibit, interfere with, or otherwise disrupt or cause performance degradation, regardless of intent, purpose or knowledge, to the Service or any other host, server, backbone network, node or service.
Resell the Service or otherwise make available to anyone outside the Premises the ability to use the Service (for example, through wi-fi or other methods of networking), in whole or in part, directly or indirectly.
Interfere with computer networking or telecommunications service to any user, host or network, including, without limitation, denial of service attacks, flooding of a network, overloading a service, improper seizing and abusing operator privileges, and attempts to “crash” a host.
